On our 5th day we went to Washington DC. We left Chinatown at 8am and arrived after noon. We went on a chartered bus with the same tour company that we went to Philly with. It was $35 roundtrip. We had from noon-8pm to explore.
I picked up a souvenir book to look at all the sites. There was also a (bad-not to scale) map inside.
All the things were actually close to Chinatown where we were dropped off, but we walked a long way in the wrong direction because the map was not drawn to scale and not very good. After walking a long way in the wrong direction we asked someone where to go and they pointed us in the right direction.
We saw:
Some beautiful churches
The White House—there was someone outside protesting about nuclear weapons.
The Washington monument
The world war 2 memorial
The Korean war memorial
Lincoln memorial (didn’t attempt to climb the stairs)—reflecting pool was empty…why? Ruined my postcard style shot!
I missed the Jefferson Memorial. I also didn't get to the capital building, pentagon, or the Arlington cemetary. It was farther away.
I didn’t find the Vietnam memorial.
PROS: nice city, easy to get around and most of tourist sites are in the same area
CONS: none
